Plane Piece Found Part of Missing Malaysian Flight MH370?

Some 500 days of searching for missing Malaysian Flight MH370 and nothing had been found until, possibly now.

A piece of what appears to be part of a Boeing 777 plane has allegedly washed ashore on the small French island, Reunion just to the east of Africa’s Madagascar.  Experts are saying that based on the number, imprinted on the part found, it is most likely a wing piece from a Boeing 777 and that the only Boeing 777 missing, is Missing Malaysian Flight MH370.  While it is believed to be what might be a “flaperon” of a 777, It has yet to be officially confirmed as such.  The piece has been crated by police and other authorities to be taken to France to be examined more carefully.

Johnny Begue, a resident of Reunion, was out with his crew of 8 others to clean up the shoreline starting at 7 a.m..  He told reporters that he was allegedly to have been looking for a rock to use as a pestle to grind chilies on a break at 8:45 a.m. when he spotted what appeared to be a piece of a plane.  He called to his crew to come and lift the piece out of the way of the tide so that it wouldn’t wash out again to sea.

““I immediately thought it was plane debris – the length and curve of it, there were screws on it that hadn’t gone rusty,” Begue told reporters during interviews throughout the day.

The crew lifted the piece to a lawn area.

We wanted to set it on the lawn and plant flowers around it,” he said but, apparently, phoned a local radio station.  That is when police showed up and cordoned off the area.

Begue later went back to the area because he said he remembered that there was also a tattered suitcase in the area and wanted police to show police where to find it, telling reporters that he expected no compensation for this find but, he “hoped he would get a medal if it turned out to be part of the missing flight”.

Reunion is a French owned island that is said to have approximately 844,000 residents.  The island used to rely upon sugar exports but, now uses pretty much solely tourism for it’s income.  With at least 42 percent of the island’s population or better, living under the poverty line and some estimated 60 percent of youth, being un-employed in 2014, it’s a sure bet that Reunion is in bad need of publicity to draw the attention of the world towards it.  This has surely done just that as media has converged their focus on the island.

In noticing that Begue has said that there was no rust on the piece, it begs the question of how long that piece was submerged or exposed to air.  While barnacles were found, the fact that they can begin within days and grow to larger sizes in small amounts of time, make the question of time less reliable.  Seventy-five percent of barnacles live in depths of 100m/300ft depths of water while twenty-five percent live in tidal zones where constant water is not necessary but, tides coming in and out, are enough to sustain them.  Being a coastal area, it wouldn’t have been necessary of the piece to have been laying somewhere near the shoreline for the barnacles to have started growing.

Then, we have the authorities who have been searching in the Southern Indian Ocean for 500 days or so, without finding even a shred of evidence that MH370 went down where they have been searching, beyond some calculations made and based on the now infamous, British owned data company, Inmarsat whose technology wasn’t meant to be used to locate missing planes.  Millions of dollars have been spent by Australia, Malaysia and several other countries aiding in the search area set out by this data and until this recent find, not one scrap of debris has been found anywhere.  Desperation must be setting in as critics have bashed the possibly now, futility in searching further in the area.

Experts are being extremely careful in not saying that this is a part from a 777 because they say that these types of parts can be bought or gotten easily and that parts are often changed by mechanics when deemed necessary as well as the idea that possibly, a wrong serial number could have been given.

They have dismissed the worn piece of luggage as possibly being garbage and nothing to do with the plane piece at the moment.

Meanwhile, relatives of those who were on MH370, are dubious about this latest find until or unless it has been confirmed as many still cling to a thread of hope of having their loved ones found alive and well.  There have been a lot of false pieces of information and finds that have stirred emotions to boiling points, only to be held as false connections to their loved one’s plight.

While the world awaits the outcome of this investigation, it’s easy to put 2 and 2 together to come up with 5 on either side of the outcome of this case but, one thing is for sure.  Searchers are getting desperate to find answers before they appear foolish and be deemed as having wasted money and time.  The people’s of Reunion are in need of work and this surely has placed a spotlight not only upon the Begue who allegedly found the piece but, also upon the island itself.

At the moment, I will not be holding my breath that this piece belongs to MH370 but rather waiting to see what investigators come up with this time.  There have been far too many false starts and finds to count so, I will remain skeptical about this one as well until proven otherwise and still be holding onto my original thoughts that MH370 did not go down in the Southern Indian Ocean until it is proven to me that it did.  At least…that’s the way that I’m dealing with this latest report at the moment, from my little corner of life.
